3.1.1.2.1.3. Basic Stationary Dribbling: Additional Techniques & Drills
(1) Q: What are additional techniques when dribbling with one hand in a stationary position?
A: An additional technique is the pocket dribble.
(2) Q: What is a pocket dribble?
A: During the pocket dribble, the ball will be dribbled (or pulled) back into the “triple threat” pocket, but this time only with one hand on the ball (instead of with your guide hand). The pocket dribble will allow you to hesitate during your dribble, get ready to change direction during the dribble, bring the ball away from the defense, pass with one hand, or shoot (we will work on all of these actions later). Your dribbling hand will now be on the side of the ball, rather than directly on top (it will not be a carrying violation, as long as your hand does not go under the ball). Your torso will stay facing forward (not turned to the side).
