A MODERN MEDIUM FOR CULTURAL PROSPERITY

Coordinating with Tibetan basketball players and scholars across many regions, Norlha Basketball is creating a comprehensive, accessible, multilingual Tibetan basketball development guide. The goals of this project are to:

  • preserve the Tibetan language in this communal, popular space

  • create a unified set of basketball terms across all regions and dialects while still representing and respecting the uniqueness of each dialect

  • provide knowledge and training of this immensely popular activity to areas without access to coaches

Although to some basketball may seem a simple game, it is quite complex with hundreds of skills, rules, terms, and strategies to learn. Hundreds of hours have already been dedicated to this project by volunteers, and many more will be required to finish.
