2.1.4.1.2.1. Defending Screens: Off-Ball Switch
(1) Q: How do we defend off-ball screens if we switch?
A: The same principles as on-ball switches apply.
(2) Q: When should we switch off-ball screens?
A: Similar to when switching on-ball screens, the defense should switch off-ball screens if the defensive players are of similar size (guard/guard or post/post) to prevent any mismatches.
SKILLS DRILLS
Skills Drill #1 - Off-Ball Screen: Switch (Guard to Guard)
Ball will start at the top of the key with O2, with O3 on one of the wings. A Coach (C) or another offensive player will be on the opposite wing. X2 will start in on-ball defense, and X3 in deny defense.
O2 will pass the ball to C, then set an off-ball screen for O3. X2 will communicate to X3 about the screen, and switch.
Walk through first, then play live. Offense has 7 seconds to score.
Skills Drill #2 - Off-Ball Screen: Switch (Post to Post)
Same as Skills Drill #1 but O4 and O5 will start on opposite blocks. X4 and X5 will be in ¾-front post defense and help defense.
O4 will set a screen for O5; X4 will communicate the screen and switch with X5.
